Hammond Park (previously a portion of Banjup) was created in March 2002. It is now a suburb of the City of Cockburn that has an estimated population of 110,314. The City of Cockburn is located on the coastline of Western Australia, approximately 15 kilometres south of the Perth CBD and consists of a total area of 170 square kilometres. It is bounded in the north by the cities of Fremantle, Melville and Canning, in the east by the City of Armadale, in the south by the Town of Kwinana and in the west by the Indian Ocean.

This coastal city is renowned for its historical events and tourism opportunities along with its agricultural and ship buildingindustries. Cockburn is very much a growing city with a diverse mix of residential, retail, commercial, industrial and rural areas. With more than 35,000 dwellings (2011) and over 6,400 registered businesses (2009), the City of Cockburn has the planned capacity to grow to 130,000 people by 2031 supported by a rich mix of centres, community facilities and diverse employment opportunities.

Located with a frontage to Marquis Road, the Hammond Park Medical Centre is only a five minute drive from the KwinanaFreeway exit south off Rowley Road. This medical centre is an extension to the Hammond Centro Centro shopping precinct that offers a variety of retail services to the surrounding community.

The Cockburn area is one of the fastest growing areas in the southern corridor of Western Australia.
